7th day: Porto da Cruz, Larano, Boca do Risco, Machico

Discover Porto da Cruz and a beautiful walk to Machico along the Larano path via Boca do Risco.

The seventh and the last day of your journey through Madeira will take you to the picturesque town of Porto da Cruz in the northeast of the island. This day is dedicated to a more leisurely pace after hard days of exploring.

Porto da Cruz is famous for its traditional rum distillery. The visit to the rum factory is free and you will learn how the locals produce rum from sugar cane (rum production usually takes place in the spring, March through to April).

From Porto da Cruz, you will then go uphill to Vereda do Larano, towards Machico.

This coastal trail offers wonderful views of the ocean. In the Boca do Risco section, after about 2 hours of walking, turn right down to Machico.

When you arrive at a levada, there are two routes, a shorter one straight down to the center of Machico, or a slightly longer and more demanding one along the levada to your left towards Pico do Facho and then following a path down to the marina and the beach.
